Reminiscent of Sorolla in his practiced use of light, Joan Segrelles evocative paintings take the viewers to another place and time, whether to the places that exist in their fond memories, or to places that exist only in their imagination.Segrelles paints in a loose style giving no real detail, but the overall effect of his work is nothing short of spectacular; you can see and feel exactly the mood he is trying to set. As you can see when looking at a piece of his work he specializes in soft medium colours, blending them seamlessly to get across the atmospheric quality of his seascapes, and capturing the mood of the changing climate. He often uses the same scene in his paintings, but uses the changing weather or time of day to dictate the colour for the scene and therefore the mood.
Joan Segrelles was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1960. He received his formal art training at the Bellas Artes University of Barcelona, where he experimented with different art forms and styles.
