I was born to be an artist. I love expressing myself through creativity at every turn, whether it is graphic design (up until now, my professional career), entertaining, decorating my home, working with children, or promoting faith. I love to delight people with art and help them to see things in an enjoyable way, maybe a way they least expected. To that end, it seems as if my journey through the art world has touched on many, many facets of creative life. My goal now is to paint and continue to develop my style which best suits me and my outgoing personality.
I am painting in a style that is unique and is my own. I love working with acrylics as I am able to layer the colors rapidly. I like to paint fast and not labor over details, but record the essential feel of a subject. I incorporate gesso in the canvas preparation to give a tactile and generous impasto look to the paint surface. I want the colors to be fresh and clear, so the viewer is pleased with the clarity and/or excitement of the painting. Also, to help achieve this look is the fact that I paint with flat cards and/or a pallet knife. This keeps me loose and away from overstating the obvious. I paint almost entirely from my actual experiences. I need to be stirred emotionally by what I’m experiencing during travels, regular daily adventures and activities. I keep my camera with me so at that point I take photos, I print the one that speaks to me and then begin my painting. When it permits, I do enjoy plein air painting.
This aspect of my creative life is the most satisfying of all I have experienced. I enjoy every minute of my time painting and hope to continue growing as a fine artist.
