Spending my
youth in diverse places such as the Philippines, Maryland, New York,
Virginia and Georgia enhanced my creativity in a variety of ways, art
projects being encouraged by my parents. Days in
the Philippines and winters in upstate New York allowed plenty of
activity indoors with projects in which my mother gave her guidance. I developed interests in a variety of mediums
including painting, paper-mache, and fabric.
After
obtaining an art education degree from a small southern university, I
moved to Jacksonville Florida with my husband and taught art in public
schools for 22 years. My focus to my own work.
When painting I become consumed in the visual experience,
and focus in the presence. I think in only in the
color, shape, light and shadow of the image I am painting and am
nurtured by this sort of thought process and inspired by the simple
splendor of form and texture in layers of color. I
paint still lifes in a realistic style as a response to the composition
of the shapes and form of the subjects. This
process takes me through enjoyment, frustration, endurance and
fulfillment.
A sense of serenity is developed through
simplicity in this series of still life paintings. The
vessels have been collected over the years and have special meaning. Because they are ordinary things that have a
constant presence, their familiarity is a source of comfort. Still life
artists Paul Cezanne and Giorgio Morandi. Morandi’s
palette and composition are a foundation of inspiration for my work.
